4. Water from The Rock - Exodus 17:1-7...
Again the Israelites failed to trust in God for their deliverance despite the daily miraculous provisions (Red Sea, cloud, Elim, manna and quail). This time Moses was afraid they would kill him. They had run out of water and were in a desert place, they had a definite need but lacked the faith to believe God loved and cared for them. God instructed Moses to strike the rock and when he did streams of water poured out of the rock. 1) The Moment - enough water to feed the whole nation and their flocks we’re talking a reservoir here not just a little stream. 2) The Memory - Lev 23:41… command to celebrate this event as a week long camp in tents forever, in memory of God’s provision in the past and of how God would pour His river of living water from the Temple in the Messianic age in the future, for the blessing and healing of the nations Ezekiel 47… 3) The Mystery - Jesus in John 4 and John 7 proclaims Himself to be The Living Water, sent from God to heal and restore us to a living relationship with God as our Loving Father and King. 4) The Message - The Dead Sea is dead because although water constantly flows into it, there are no outlets and the water becomes still and stagnant and kills everything that comes into it. Christians become stagnant, and destructive if we do not allow The Holy Spirit having filled us each new day to flow out through us to everyone we meet. Are you allowing The Living water of God not only to fill you but to flow out through you to the people you will meet today?”
