The Israelites found themselves in the “desert of Sin” and that’s what they did vv.2-3.. Grumbling about their hunger to God’s leaders, and in so doing grumbling against God. God’s love for us is unconditional but blessings and promise come through obedience and journeying with God day by day.
1. God gave them Manna v.4… when He could so easily have rejected them or punished them for their lack of belief, and grumbling against Moses and Aaron again. Psalm 78:22-29… God The Creator met their physical needs in a creative way “what is it” = Manna.
2. God gave them Quailv.13… a delicacy enjoyed by the Egyptians, he gave them an evening meal as well as breakfast. Not just something bland and ordinary, in the same way God wants to rain down His blessing upon us so that we can be channels of that blessing to the people in Sindlesham, resulting in all the glory going to Him.
3. God gives us The Living Bread… John 6:32-35… Jesus said I am The Living Bread the real bread from Heaven  Psalm 34:8… By receiving Jesus into our life He has the power to make everything right between us and God to restore us as His Child for eternity and into His family the church for eternity, so that we are filled and changed by The Spirit. And the image of Jesus we know what it is to be fully satisfied, relaxed about death and looking forward to our real home with God in Heaven for all eternity.

There are times when we face tremendous problems, difficulties and suffering in our lives. When this happens we face a decision either to move forward in faith or backwards in defeat.
The Israelites were faced with seemingly only two options Fight or Surrender.

God said “Go Forward”
1. Don’t give up and go back. We are often tempted to go back to our Spiritual Egypt but God wants us to go forward in our Christian lives to the Place He has for us.
2. Don’t Blame God Trust Him. Many people don’t trust others but God can be fully trusted. Trust brings victory, Blame only defeat.
3. God sees Beyond the Problem. We can trust God because He sees what lies ahead of the problem or the suffering we need to allow Him to direct us.

This week is the first in a series based on The Exodus Journeys.

Whilst we are saved from the moment we trust Christ as our Saviour, we are not immediately transformed in character or nature and this work of becoming like Christ (sanctification) is like a journey that continues for the rest of our earthly lives and must necessarily involve a commitment to and relationship with God’s people the Church. This journey cannot be undertaken alone for it is only as we learn to live in, and as a community with God’s people, that we have opportunity to develop and produce the Fruit of The Spirit, and share the Gifts of The Spirit, that he pours into our lives. In this series, we will see how the Israelites’ experiences in the desert can help us to walk with Christ and allow The Holy Spirit to repair the broken image of our God, that we have been born to recover and display to the world. 

The Passover (Exodus 12)

The night of terror for the Egyptian nation brought freedom from a life of slavery for Gods’ people and set them on the road to finding God’s promises, and the place He had prepared for them, through trust and obedience. The Passover provides a 3D picture of our Salvation in Jesus Christ through His death for us on the Cross, and His Resurrection from the grave.

1 Saved From Destruction God had previously warned Pharaoh that unless he freed the Israelites then the destruction of the first born would take place vv4:22-23… Yet the destruction of the Egyptians is not as serious as the eternal destruction of the soul that the New Testament speaks of for which God had to send His only Son to die in our place. Through faith we are no longer headed for eternal destruction but eternal LIFE.

2 Saved By Christ’s Death vv12:21-24… The Israelites covered their door frames with the blood of the sacrificial lamb and the angel of death saw the blood and turned away from destroying them. In the same way, God now sees that through our actively putting our faith in Jesus Christ we are too covered by His blood who became our sacrifice.  Now God is able to shower His love upon us as we are united with his Son, our Saviour.

3 Saved To Declare God’s Wonders The Passover meal is set in the context of a week long Celebration and Thanksgiving (1 Peter 2:9). Our life is to be one of Joy and Praise for who God is to us and for all He has done and will do. The Church is the bride of Christ, He died to save His bride and He wants her to be radiant, joyful and fulfilled. That means YOU and I. If you haven’t received God’s gift of Love and salvation you can’t declare it, but for the rest of us there’s no excuse Rev. vv5:13b…
